haiz....

blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

说到旅行hor, i updated and uploaded pictures from Melbourne trip, but i haven't update posts regarding my Tasmania winter trip and my mid-sem break road trip...
so leh.. after exams la har!!!

OK! time to back to my studies!!! haiz...

Wish all of my friends who are having exams/preparing for exams,
all the best and good luck!!!

13-15/07/2009 - Melbourne City Tour 2

According to the tour guide of one of the tours we went, Melbourne's streets are of vertically and horizontally arrangement. They are all in order and easily to differentiate in maps. This is basically same as Brisbane's city streets.

Melbourne had the most effects due to the Victorian Gold Rush as it was the main port of development. Therefore many buildings in Melbourne were the products of Victorian Gold Rush and are now cultural precinct. Those buildings which were more than 200 years old were preserved and legally protected. Some of the famous buildings that were built during the Gold Rush period were University of Melbourne, Old Melbourne Gaol, Parliament House, State Library, Melbourne Town Hall, St Paul's Cathedral, St Patrick's Cathedral and Queen Victoria Market.

*University of Melbourne was mentioned in the previous post.

1. Old Melbourne Gaol

I thought gaol was pronounced as 'ga-ol' but later only i realised it was the same pronunciation as jail. Anw, this gaol was a prison located at Russell Street but is now a musuem. It has some tours for visitors to enter the gaol to have a look how the cell and building look like. Since we were not really interested of getting in and did not have much time, we did not get into it.

2. Parliament House

It was one of the largest 19th century buildings in Australia. We saw there were people having petition there when we visited. Some were giving speech and most were just listening quietly.

According to mr yeap, we can visit the inner building of the parliament. However it was too late as he informed me after i went there. So we just took some pictures from outside.

this building has 3 different departments,
city musuem, immigration museum and the marriage register board.

3. State Library of Victoria

4. St Paul's Cathedral

5. St Patrick's Cathedral

This building was named after the patron, St Patrick. It is a cathedral church of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne in Victoria.

6. Queen Victoria Market

This market is one of the major markets that survived since the gold rush in Victoria. The intro to this market was that this market is a true reflection of Melbourne's cosmopolitan make-up. The market consists of many different stalls selling food, fruits, seafood, meat, local and importeed gourmet, fashions, sunglasses, souvenirs and many more.

the food court we had our breakfast

i guessed it was quite famous as many queued for it.

Besides historical buildings, Melbourne is famous for some of its food also.. blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

i ordered Strawberry ice-cream
(contained strawberries, cream and vanilla ice-cream)

2. A shop in Crown Entertainment Complex

Before i left, finally i remember to take some pictures of the house we had been staying for a week:
(Jeremy's house's living room)

Shin hoon, Jeremy and Brian accompanied me to the Southern Cross Station to take Skybus to Melbourne airport. Thanks them for everything! the stay, the treat and all the kind thoughts!!!

*have to say sorry to jeremy and his housemate cz we disturbed them for so many days, and so noisy when we were there!*

The Melbourne airport:
it was the tiger airways terminal, which was located super far from the main terminal... from here, i will meet with ang zen yang and proceed to my next destination - Tasmania!!!

Bye Bye Melbourne!!!! blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com
