Yeah, it is MID-SEMESTER BREAK!!!!!
While others are having their 4 days holiday for Good Friday and Easter Day, we are having our mid-semester break as well. So, we have plan to go around Brisbane during this 1 week holiday.
21st March 2008
Our 1st destination is The
Australia Zoo!!
We departed early in the morning as the journey to Australia Zoo is quite far, I'm in St. Lucia, which is zone 2 of Brisbane, while the zoo is in zone 12, so you can imagine how far it is. We took a bus to Toowong and took a train from Toowong to the Central (a station like KL Central where everyone changes their train there) and from Central to a station named Beerwah. The journey took us more than one hour!! @_@!!?? We took a shuttle bus from the train station to the zoo, and its FREE!!

(oh ya! introducing the girl in black is Khai Chin
and the guy in navy blue is Wei Jien.)
Welcome to Australia Zoo
One thing special about Australia Zoo is that it is the home of the crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin. The zoo was opened in 1970 by his parents, Bob and Lyn Irwin, with the name Beerwah Reptile Park. Bob Irwin was a globally known herpetologist while Lyn was one of the pioneer to rehabilitate sick and injured wildlife in south east of Queensland.
Steve Irwin helped his parents manage rogue crocodiles, reptiles and look after the animals in the zoo. The zoo continued to expand until it was taken over by Steve and his wife, Terri, in 1992.
It had been receiving many Australian Tourism Awards, which includes Major Tourist Attractions (2003-2004) and Tourism Retailing for 2005 and 2006.

Terri is feeding Graham, the croc.
After the show, we finally start our journey in the zoo, hoping to see as many Australian animals as we can. We have taken lots of pictures of those animals but I will not introduce them one by one due to my laziness. :p
Anw, I will try my best to include some brief explanation about the animal, or at least their names.
For your information, the Australian Zoo is very particular about the life of the animals, therefore most of the animals have their own home and territories which consist of 50% land and 50% water, just like our natural environment.
So now, let's have a look with the pictures of our adorable animals...
(it is very active and able to run very fast,
we get the opportunity to pat it before we leave the zoo)
Kangaroos:
Anatomy of Kangaroo
The Reproduction Process of Kangaroos
We even get to pat the kangaroos!
Get to take picture with kangaroo and a leng lui! haha!
Reticulated Python
Others Reptiles:
Komodo Dragon
Iguanas, they have no particular habitat in the zoo, but you can find them everywhere, along the road, in the crocodiles' territory and even wallabies' home!
The home of the Elephants, Elephantasia
Tiger Temple
The tiger keeper exhibits his tight friendship bond with his tigers,
he pat and even kiss the tiger!!
The fur of the tiger is super beautiful compare to those tigers I saw in Malaysia.
Camel
Other Australian animals:
Cassowary
(It is a rainforest gardener which fertilizes and spread seeds in the forest.
It is also in the group of birds called ratites, which means flightless bird,
and is same group with kiwi, ostrich and the extinct elephant bird of Madagascar.
However it is an endangered species.)
(These turtles can be generally classified into 2 categories, short-necked and long-necked)
Ok, these are the photos taken in Australia Zoo during Good Friday and hereby I will end this post with the pictures of the souvenirs I bought home!
