09/07/2009 - Great Ocean Road

Great Ocean Road is one of the must-go attractions in Melbourne, consisting many unique rock formation due to the huge wave and wind of the ocean. This road was built by 3000 returned soldiers and sailors as a memorial for those who sacrificed in First World War.

We departed early in the morning and finally reached Great Ocean Road after few hours in the bus..

the 4th Memorial Arch of Great Ocean Road,
after the first 3 were removed due to fire, storm and road widening.

After stopping awhile for taking pictures, we were back to our small bus heading to Bay Beach.

Finally we reached the well-known Twelve Apostles!!!

These 12 rocks were formed by constant erosion of limestone cliff which led to formation of arch. However, when the rocks connecting the arch collapsed, the rock will stand alone in the ocean, forming stacks of rocks in the ocean. These 12 nearby stacked of rocks was named as Twelve Apostles. Now it left only 8 as the other were collapsed too... maybe one day in the future, the 12 apostles will totally collapsed and left nothing back except pictures.... valuable pictures~~ woohoo... *dreaming*

we can choose to climb up the hill to the lookout point or take a helicopter flight ($75) to have a bird's eye view.. i didnt go for it, but samantha went! she said it was marvelous!!!

* just to mention, Great Ocean Road is located in Port Campbell National Park*

the scenery was great!! these are the Twelve Apostles...
which left 8,
though i cant count 8 also...

not sure what rocks are these...

The Loch Ard Gorge
this gorge should have an Island Archway in the middle
but no longer now as the connector rock collapsed in June 2009, a week before we went there.
so it left over these two rock standing in the middle of the ocean..
having similar process and 'experience' like the 12 Apostles.

The Razorback,
this rock stacks with sharp edges and grooves were due to
the wind-blow spray and erosion from sea waves...
it turned to this rock shelf look when some of the rocks in between collapsed into the sea.

The London Arch
it was known as London Bridge before the connected rock from land to the arch collapsed.
now, it's just an arch which looks like 叉烧 to me...

a bay along the Great Ocean Road
and with a closer look:

i don't know who wrote that but i'm sure the person was creative and patient.
every single alphabet was written by footsteps...

We went back to city after the tour to Great ocean Road.. we had dinner in the city and headed to our supper!!!

the famous Gelati ice-cream:

yummy-yummy!!!
their famous Durian flavoured ice-cream was sold out,
many wanted to buy but were disappointed..
well, i wont try the durian ice-cream...
i bought a 3-scoop medium cup with their famous Freddo surprise, fruiti di bosco and bailey.

10/07/2009 - The Gold Trail and St Annes Winery

I woke up early every morning and it was really difficult and tiring... Anw, we departed on 8.15am to Ballarat for our gold searching journey...
blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

saw these Smart cars factory with Smart cars stacking up...

Ballarat, once a great city with chaos during the Gold Rush in 1851. It was developed and now famous for its Gold Musuem and Sovereign Hill goldfields.

According to my tour guide, San Francisco is known as 旧金山 while Melbourne is known as 新金山 due to the Gold Rush in Ballarat. It was also due to the gold rush that melbourne was developed with many ancient buildings in city.

The Gold Musuem:

This is Sir Henry Bolte (i mean the statue),
probably the last Australian battler..

Souvereign Hill, opposite the Gold Musuem, is a living musuem set at the hillside. It was once a gold mining site and the paths, buildings as well as mines inside represent the goldrush Ballarat during the 1850s.

onced stayed by the miners.

Panning for gold at the Diggings..
i want gold!!!
but failed~~ T_T

took a train to have a journey deep to the underground for a gold mine tour..
we can see how the miners work underground, how the machine worked and
a movie telling stories of miners from China...
many get rich for digging gold, but more were dead n buried inside the collapsed mine...
is it worthy? to risk ur life for wealth?
hmm....

GOLD!! they are real GOLD!!!

meant to be there for me???

After the underground Gold Mine Tour, we left Ballarat and headed to a winery, St Annes Winery for wine tasting. haha, excited!!!!

Cheers!!

After trying for about 6 types of wine, I can't find one that I like.. maybe because they were either too sweet or too dry.. but well, i enjoy the wine tasting experience.... 多多益善...
haha! but i did not buy any wine~~

We were sent back to the city after that.. everyday was so busy and full of tours, and so the next few days... we will be walking around the city and some attractions near the city..

update soon~~
